Using your personal information
When applying for student funding you supply us with personal information in support of your application. This personal information may be used in a number of ways, for example:
- To make support decisions
- For fraud prevention
- For audit
- For statistical analysis
Where appropriate, as part of the support decision making process, we will share data with the Student Loans Company (SLC) (who pay loans to students on our behalf). They, in turn, will carry out checks with the Identity and Passport Service and the Department for Work and Pensions and will work with HM Revenue and Customs to collect loan payments. To ensure that student support is paid only to students continuing to attend a higher education institution, information relating to students' attendance, withdrawals and temporary absences will be shared amongst ourselves, SLC and Universities and Colleges. We may also share your information to National Records of Scotland to help carry out its public functions, including measuring population levels, migration and investigation into census alternatives (known as the Beyond 2011 programme). You can access any personal information that we hold about you by contacting our Data Protection Officer.
